Refractory Concrete for Aluminum Melting Furnaces

Resoco supplies refractory concrete that meets the demanding working conditions of aluminum melting furnaces.

Aluminum melting furnace

Continuous aluminum melting furnaces are divided into the following three chambers:

• Aluminum ingot charging chamber: Requires refractory concrete with high strength to resist abrasion and withstand impacts between the refractory lining and aluminum ingots. Therefore, the RSC-B80 product is very suitable for this area due to its very high strength.
• Molten aluminum holding chamber: This chamber melts aluminum ingots into molten aluminum and maintains temperature to keep the aluminum in liquid state. It is divided into two zones:
  • Bottom zone: This zone is in contact with molten aluminum and requires a refractory concrete with high density to prevent infiltration by molten aluminum, which would alter the refractory material's properties. Additionally, the refractory concrete must be made from very pure raw materials with low impurities, because high impurities such as Fe2O3 can react with molten aluminum, altering refractory properties and contaminating the molten aluminum. Therefore, in this area, the RSC-AL750 product provides excellent resistance to aluminum infiltration.
  • Ceiling zone: This zone is above the molten aluminum mass and does not contact the molten aluminum. Either RSC-B80 or RSC-AL750 products can be used here.

Induction furnace

• Molten aluminum tapping chamber: Has similar characteristics to the bottom zone of the molten aluminum holding chamber, so the same product RSC-AL750 is used.
• Insulation layer: Uses refractory concrete type RSC-100IS with a density < 1.0 g/cm³ and a low thermal conductivity coefficient < 0.35 W/mK at 600°C. Outside the refractory concrete insulation layer, Calcium Silicate boards can be used for thermal insulation to minimize heat loss from the furnace system, thereby saving energy costs.
